Description

A local non-profit client is seeking a compassionate and empathetic Director of Development and Communications to join their team. This employee is responsible for overseeing the development and communications functions.

This is a full-time, M-F position, reporting to the Executive Director.

 

Job Duties will include:

 

Development:

  • Implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the organization
  • Identify, educate, cultivate and solicit individual, foundation, corporate and in-kind prospects to support program, endowment and operating goals
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of special events and public information activities
  • Increase and diversify revenue streams to help build programmatic and organizational capacity
  • Research and identify public and private grant sources of restricted and unrestricted funding. Develop proposals in partnership with appropriate staff, and execute and archive all proposals with long-term, relationship-management approach
  • Work with Board members and other volunteers to design and execute fundraising events annually

 

Communication:

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance brand identity, broaden awareness of its programs and priorities
  • Oversee development of all print communications including the annual report, newsletters, marketing collateral materials, and electronic communications, including website and social media
  • Actively engage, cultivate, and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding programs, special events, public announcements and other projects. Prioritize media opportunities and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materials
  • Oversee staff and interns responsible for website administration and coordination to ensure new and consistent information posted regularly in line with strategic priorities
  • Other duties as required

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency in English, with fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Able to handle sensitive issues with discretion and confidentiality
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities
  • Experience with grant research and writing
  • Demonstrated success cultivating donors and soliciting major gifts
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; Master’s preferred
